Käuferle is a family business from Aichach near Augsburg and has over 50 years of experience in the construction of garage doors, partition wall systems and enclosures, especially for bicycles. Our Variobox is a smart, modular system solution for freestanding bikeports and bicycle shelters. Wood in the façade, charging stations and solar roofs can be realised as well as green roofs. Its timeless design and diverse material and design options (such as freely combinable cladding materials) were honoured with the German Design Award in 2021.
Each Variobox is individually adapted to the respective user requirements and locations. The wishes of our customers and the specific installation situations and dimensions always form the basis of our planning. This means that our bicycle shelters and bikeports always fit in perfectly with their surroundings - in small residential complexes as well as in large office complexes.
Regardless of whether a bicycle shelter is lockable or not, it offers the greatest convenience when it is located near the entrance to the house in the front garden. Thanks to the modular system structure, the Variobox can be adapted to a wide range of conditions - for example as a waste or garden shed with combined bicycle shelter. Metal is just as suitable for façades as wood.
Car and bicycle parking spaces often have their own canopies, although both should provide equal protection from sun, rain and snow. However, a lockable bicycle shelter and carport can also form a functional and design unit. This saves space and creates synergies - for example, when it comes to charging e-bikes and e-cars in the carport.
As a rule, no planning permission is required in residential areas for free-standing bicycle shelters and bikeports that are not directly on the property boundary. The situation is different if a development plan restricts the construction of garden sheds or bicycle shelters in certain areas of the property. There is no standardised regulation on maximum permissible sizes for bicycle shelters - these vary depending on the federal state.
Bicycle shelters and bikeports with wooden components blend harmoniously into any residential, office or commercial environment. The natural, renewable building material wood offers a wide range of design and customisation options - for example with the help of vertical or horizontal battens as side walls or with natural, painted or varnished wood-based panels.
Thanks to the robust and durable construction, photovoltaic modules are also possible on the roofs of our bicycle shelters and bikeports. Together with the wooden components, they improve your ecological footprint and at the same time support the charging of the e-bikes parked in the lockable bike shelter.
A green bike shed or bicycle shelter in the front garden is ideal for anyone who wants to make a small contribution to the environment. They not only provide space for bicycles and e-bikes, but also add a creative and ecological touch: The green roof above the bike racks stores rainwater, creates habitats for animals and plants and ensures a better microclimate.
Regardless of whether the bicycle shelter is lockable or not - with its hot-dip galvanised steel skeleton structure, the Variobox from Käuferle is particularly robust and durable. The use of metal panels (made of steel or aluminium sheet, for example) results in an elegant, modern appearance that can be used to set design accents.
E-bikes and cargo bikes are increasingly increasing the space required for two-wheelers. Thanks to its modular design, our metal bicycle shelter can be customised flexibly in all conceivable dimensions and individually equipped with many accessories. Covered shelters for 2, 5, 10 or even more bicycles and cargo bikes are thus effortlessly possible - for example in front of large apartment blocks.
Large residential or commercial buildings require robust and easily accessible bicycle parking facilities. If they can be accessed from both sides, the offset parking of bicycles can save floor space. To make the best possible use of the available space, our bicycle parking systems can also be equipped with bicycle parkers in a high/low position.

Bicycle shelters are lightweight, lockable or open structures in which e-bikes, cargo bikes and bicycles can be parked safely, protected from the weather and in a space-saving manner.
The maximum permitted size of a bicycle shelter in the front garden or elsewhere on the property is regulated in a development plan and in the state building regulations (LBO). A small bicycle shelter is usually not subject to authorisation.
The simplest solution is roofs made of sheet metal. However, green roofs are more environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing. As a rule, this involves extensive greening with minimal maintenance. In contrast to intensive green roofs, no watering is necessary in summer.
If not only conventional bicycles but also cargo bikes are to be stored here, separate parking areas are required, as cargo bikes need more space. The flexible, modular Variobox from Käuferle makes it easy to create such areas.
